It’s the first quarter for Apple in fiscal year 2017. That means the holiday season and that means a sales swell. One place where the company would like to see some salvage is inthe iPhone — some numbers to ward off    a third consecutive quarterofannual sales decline.
While    KGI Securities’ Ming-Chi Kuo has been positive, but still fairly conservative about its forecast for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus (and, practically, all iPhones as Apple is vague on its reporting), others have been    looking forward to a strong rebound.
BTIG Research, for example, is one of the firms    noticing lengthy delays in shipping times across the boardfor all variants of the new iPhones. Two weeks into availability and 58 countries later, it remains a hot mess.
“[The] online Apple store estimates ship times of 14-21 days for all iPhone 7 models (other than Jet Black) compared to 3-5 days for the iPhone 6s last year and 7-10 days for the iPhone 6,” writes analyst Walter Piecyk.
Depending on the carrier, some customers have lucked out. From T-Mobile, a 128GB iPhone 7 will get in front of a door in nine days or less — certainly less than the 28 to 42 days for the 64GB iPhone 6s last year.    The iPhone 7 Plus seems the most constrainedwith shipment queues lasting from three to nine weeks. In terms of color, it’s the Jet Black, silly!
“Jet Black shipping estimates go as far out as December 15th,” Piecyk wrote, “which might be close to a record wait time for a new iPhone.”
That is, barring the original iPhone in 2007. We don’t have wait tallies for those.
Citigroup did raise its iPhone unit sales forecast on Friday from 73 million to 79.4 million for the holiday season. And sure, with    Samsung recalling the Galaxy Note 7and all the connotations of its    burning its own house downplus positive iPhone demand signals from carriers and retailers across Asia, Europe and North America, all of this could mean a better quarter for Apple than    what people had thought a few months ago.
So, let’s clear the noise and give some dates and figures on what to watch for.

  • October 27: Apple will report 4Q16 numbers and give money estimates for next fiscal year and the all-important holiday quarter.
  • Late January is when Apple will report 1Q17 revenues and sales numbers.
  • 74.78 million: the number of iPhone unit sales made in 1Q16
  • $75.9 billion: overall revenue for Apple in 1Q16
  • $18.4 billion: net income for Apple in 1Q16
That said, the magic number to look for is 74.78 million iPhone unit sales come late in January. Apple reported that figure in its 1Q16 report. Another pair of numbers to watch out for: $75.9 billion in overall revenue and $18.4 billion in net income.
